Baby Gear Removal in North Georgia: What to Do With Outgrown Cribs, Car Seats, and Strollers
The baby's in third grade. The crib's still in the attic.
It happens in almost every house with kids. One day you're assembling a crib at midnight. A few years later, that same crib is wedged behind the Christmas decorations, next to a high chair, two strollers, and a car seat nobody has buckled in since preschool.
Baby and kid gear is some of the most common junk we find in North Georgia attics, basements, and garages. It's bulky, it's awkward to move, and most parents aren't sure what they're allowed to do with it. Here's what you need to know.
Why Old Baby Gear Is So Hard to Get Rid Of
Most household items have an obvious next stop. Baby gear is different, because safety rules decide where a lot of it can go.
Cribs. Federal crib safety standards changed in 2011, and drop-side cribs can no longer be sold, resold, or donated. Many older cribs fall into this category, so they can't simply go to a thrift store or a yard sale.
Car seats. Car seats have expiration dates, usually printed on a label or stamped into the plastic. Safety guidance also calls for replacing seats after many crashes. Because donation centers can't verify a used seat's history, many won't accept them at all.
High chairs, strollers, and play yards. These are often easier to donate, but only if they're clean, complete, and not under a recall. Missing straps, broken trays, or worn fabric usually means a donation center will turn them away.
The result is a pile of gear that feels too useful to throw out but has nowhere to go. So it stays in the attic for years.
What Can Be Donated and What Can't
Use this quick guide before you start sorting:
Usually donatable: Clean high chairs, strollers, play yards, toddler beds, bouncers, and toys in good working condition with no active recalls.
Usually not donatable: Drop-side cribs, expired car seats, car seats with an unknown crash history, and anything broken, stained, or missing parts.
Check first: Every donation center sets its own rules. Call ahead before loading up the car.
You can also look up any item on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall database before passing it along to another family.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I donate a used car seat? Many donation centers don't accept used car seats because they can't confirm the seat's age or crash history. Check the expiration date and call the donation center first.
Why can't I donate an old drop-side crib? Drop-side cribs were banned from sale and resale under federal safety standards in 2011. They can't be legally resold or donated.
Do you remove just one item? Yes. Whether it's a single crib or a whole attic of baby gear, text us photos and we'll quote it.
Do I need to bring everything outside? No. Our crew removes items from wherever they are in your home, including the attic.
